Interim version of the BSS released
過去のニュース
Dear colleagues,
As you know, a revision process of the International Basic Safety Standards for Protection Against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources (BSS) has taken place during the last 5 years. As a member of the BSS Secretariat involving all cosponsoring organizations, WHO has actively participated in this process.
The revised technical content of the BSS was recently approved by the IAEA Safety Standards Committee. Consensus was reached that the draft can now be submitted to the Commission on Safety Standards (CSS), a key step towards the endorsement of the BSS by cosponsoring organizations.
The BSS represent the culmination of unprecedented international efforts towards global harmonization of standards for radiation protection. They embody the international benchmark for radiation safety requirements, with major implications for policy and decision making in the area of radiation and health. This is particularly relevant for our work within the WHO Global Initiative on Radiation Safety in Health Care Settings, aimed to improve the implementation of BSS in the medical uses of ionizing radiation. You can find more information about the BSS at http://www-ns.iaea.org/home/rtws.asp (under “current news”).
